DESIGN TASK:
The Metal Smiths are to
make a metal artefact that will
help the faculty and staff of Philippine Science High School-Bicol Region
Campus according to their specific and certain needs.
Design Brief:
We interviewed Sir Armin Apostol, a
Values Education and Social Science teacher in our school. Our metal work is a
revolving organizer that can store office supplies, books (religious texts) and
important files (worksheets and answer sheets of students being handled).
Design Requirement:
Make an
innovative yet simple metal work that can organize important objects. With a
box-type base, there will be a revolving section on its’ main base. It will be
containing books and random office supplies. On the top part of the box, the
file organizer would be found.
a. The
organizer must have a sufficient space for the client’s needs
b. It
must be able to revolve properly.
c. The
base must be large enough to support the revolving section.
d. Length
and width of the organizer depends on the design

Do
you have medical conditions?
|
Are
you a bookworm? IF yes, what kind of books do you read?
|
What
makes you happy?
|
What
do you usually do during your free time?
|
I have no medical conditions. I think it is
because I had been healthy ever since. I don’t go to gym, I just eat healthy.
|
Probably, yes. I am very fond of religious
texts and learning/teaching materials, but I am not fond of pocketbooks.
|
That’s very simple. Anything makes me happy.
As long as I see people smiling, I become happy too. Simple things make me
happy.
|
If I am in school, I usually surf the
internet. When I’m at home, I clean, read books and watch documentaries.
|
What
is your favourite colour?
|
Are
you musically inclined?
|
What
makes you disappointed?
|
Do
you go out with your friends?
|
My favorite color is blue and white.
|
Not much. But I do love to sing. I am not
one with instruments, but I have a little background on reading notes.
|
Family problems. Another is when my mother
was in ICU for three months. But now, I don’t have any sadness. I don’t take
problems too seriously
|
I consider my grandchildren as my friends,
and also my family, specially my sister, but she is in Canada now.
|
Are
you related to any sporty? If yes, what kind do you play? If not, what kinds
are you interested in?
|
What
makes you curious the most?
|
What
are the common problems that you face in daily living/What makes you busy?
|
Do
you have any pets? If yes, what kind?
|
No. But I am interested to learn volleyball.
|
My sister once invited me to go to Canada.
But what if, I won’t be able to live a prosperous life?
|
Here in PSHS? I think it is the paper works.
It is very hard and stressful. Specially when submission of grades are near.
|
Yes I do. I prefer dogs. I actually have 3
dogs in our house, though I don’t have one in our boarding house.
|
In terms of material stuff, do you wish
anything to be improved?
|
What
is your hobby?
|
What do you prefer? Being alone or being
with other people?
|
|
No. I think I am satisfied with my things
here
|
Singing. It is also my favorite pastime and
relaxation.
|
Of course with other people! Although I do
not have a wife, I have my family.

EVALUATION CRITERIA:
These are our five questions that we can use to evaluate our
work when we have finished our artefact.
1.
Will it be able to help Mr.
Apostol in his everyday life?
2.
Are there going to be any damages
with the organizer?
3.
Will the organizer be durable?
4.
Is it going to revolve smoothly?
5.
Is our device going to be firm
enough?
I. INVESTIGATION
RESEARCH:
PREFERRED
OPTION:
Choose
the better of your designs, post it and explain why it is the best option and
how it satisfies the requirements of the design brief.
Our
first idea was just a simple file organizer. It will form a diagonal-
type
edge. Then we thought of adding another feature which is the
shelf.
The books will be placed there. But we also thought of having
another
section where his office supplies will be placed. It might
consume
lots of space, so we finally came up with the final idea which is
multi-
purpose revolving organizer.
